Video: Oscar the Bionic Catby Dr. Chris July 23, 2010 Oscar the Bionic Cat is taking the Internet by storm. Last week we are introduced to the story of Oscar, a cat who had lost both of its hind legs in a combine harvester accident. But luckily his owners brought him to the right veterinarian, Noel Fitzpatrick. Dr. Fitzpatrick teamed up with an orthopedic surgeon to perform the world's first operation to replace lost cat legs with bioengineered limbs. The technical term for the surgery was intraosseous transcutaneous amputation prosthetics. (Just the legs themselves cost over $3,000, not including surgery) Basically the prosthetics allowed Oscars existing bones to fuse with them forming an extremely strong bong allowing him to run and jump just like any other cat again. The accident happened last October on a farm in Britain's Channel Isles. The owners of Oscar the Bionic Cat are Kate and Mike Nolan.
