August 16, 2010 According to the CDC, dry pets food can be a source for salmonella infections for people, especially children. Children can become infected by playing with sick animals, playing with their food, or handling the pet's dishes.
In order to protect young children from getting sick, they recommend:
>Washing hands after handling pets and pet food >Regularly cleaning pet food bowls >Keep young children away from pet food bowls >Don't wash the pet's bowls in the kitchen or bathroom sinks
Due to the fact that many pet food companies use common suppliers for their ingredients, the latest salmonella outbreak is widespread and involves many different dog and cat food brands.
