World's Ugliest Dog Dies at 17by Dr. Chris June 4, 2010 Yesterday the world's ugliest dog died at the age of 17. The dog's name was Miss Ellie, and she was a Chinese crested hairless mutt. She was most famous for having a drooping tongue and a scruffy mass of gray hair. Miss Ellie's owner rescued her when she was only seven years old, and she has won several prizes including the world's ugliest dog, and the world's cutest dog, in separate contests. She even appeared on the Animal Planet cable show called Dog 101. Miss Ellie's owner used her fame to help raise cash for the Pigeon Forge Humane Society in Tennessee. She even had her own day named after her on the town's mayor, Keith Whaley, declared that November 12th, was Miss Ellie day. This is because she helped raise more than $100,000 for the Seiver County Humane Society. The Chinese Crested dog is one of the dog breeds that are normally hairless. Sam, another Chinese Crested dog won the world's ugliest dog contest from 2003-2005. He died in 2006.
